On 30th December 2025, TAR UMT has introduced large LED digital screens at the entrance of Yum Yum Cafeteria, one of the campus’ high-traffic areas near the main entrance of University and facing the main road. This initiative enhances campus communication by providing a central platform for student services, announcements, and event promotions, ensuring information reaches both the campus community and the public more effectively.
More importantly, the digital signage replaces the traditional use of single-use printed banners, which were often used once and disposed of after student activities and events. By shifting announcements to a reusable digital platform, the University significantly reduces paper and plastic waste while promoting a more sustainable and resource-efficient approach to campus communication.
In line with TAR UMT's Green Campus initiatives, reusable tumblers were distributed to all staff during the annual staff dinner on 21st November 2025. This initiative encourages staff to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics, such as disposable bottles. By providing these tumblers, TAR UMT promotes sustainable practices within the university community. It serves as a reminder to make eco-conscious choices in everyday life. This action reflects the university's commitment to a greener, more sustainable campus, empowering everyone to reduce their environmental footprint.
On 10th September 2025, a fabric recycling bin was installed at the Arena to support TAR UMT's commitment to sustainability. This initiative encourages students and staff to recycle unused fabrics, reducing landfill waste and carbon emissions while promoting resource efficiency.
Located at the Ground Floor parking entrance of the Arena, the recycling bin is part of the university's broader effort to foster a recycling culture and a sustainable campus. By participating, everyone at TAR UMT can contribute to a greener future and help to build a community dedicated to environmental responsibility.

TAR UMT has undertaken a structured food waste segregation initiative to better understand food waste generation patterns and prepare for long-term waste diversion strategies. On 23 July 2025, all six-campus implemented food waste segregation at major food waste generation points, namely training kitchens and student canteens (cafeterias). Proper segregation facilities were provided to ensure clear separation of food waste at source, reinforcing responsible waste handling practices across campus operations.
During the implementation period, segregated food waste was measured daily to establish baseline data on waste quantities and generation trends. While the segregated food waste was subsequently disposed of, the data collected played a critical role in informing future waste management planning. Building on this initiative, the Kuala Lumpur Campus has appointed 4LEAF Nursery and Landscape Services to manage both garden waste and food waste, converting organic waste into compost (fertiliser) for future use. This initiative reflects TAR UMT’s transition from baseline measurement and awareness-building towards a more circular, resource-efficient waste management approach.
