Visit To Kindly Orphan & Handicap Welfare Home | 18 December 2024
A group of 39 students from the Business Administration Society visited the Kindly Orphan & Handicap Welfare Homes to make a positive impact on its residents. They engaged in cleaning, painting, and tidying the premises, creating a more comfortable environment. The students also donated essential items and food staples like rice, biscuits, cooking oils, and canned goods to support the home’s daily needs. Beyond practical contributions, they organized fun games and activities, bringing joy and fostering meaningful connections with the residents. By listening to their stories and offering companionship, the students provided emotional support that resonated deeply.
Know Your Numbers, Know Your Health Carnival | 17- 18 December 2024
The main goal of this nutrition education program co-organised with Health Lane Pharmacy and Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business is to provide Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nutrition students with hands-on community service experience. During the event, 16 students delivered the nutrition education program to an adult audience. Additionally, the students were trained to perform body composition analysis using a BIA machine. Following the measurements, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nutrition students provided interpretations of the results.

Leo Club x Yayasan Maha Karuna EDUCare | 7 December 2024
Yayasan Maha Karuna, in collaboration with the Leo Club of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), successfully organized EDUCare 2024 on December 7, 2024, at the TAR UMT Basketball Courts, Volleyball Courts, and Dewan Kuliah C. This meaningful initiative aimed to support underprivileged primary school students by providing essential school supplies and promoting education as a pathway to empowerment. The program benefitted 338 students from 8 primary schools (SJKC Selayang Baru, SJKC Lee Rubber, SJKC Lai Chee, SJKT Bukit Darah, SJKC Chiao Nan, SJKC Jinjang Tengah, SJKC Kepong & SJKC Jinjang Utara) offering them school uniforms, bags, stationery, and snacks. Nestlé Malaysia also contributed by distributing free milk to the students through their mobile truck. This impactful event was made possible by the unwavering dedication of over 100 volunteers, including 70 undergraduates from TAR UMT, 20 members from Yayasan Maha Karuna, and 10 representatives from Polis Diraja Malaysia.

Sustainable Health Food Awareness Campaign | 29 Nov 2024
The Faculty of Applied Sciences collaborated with GoodMorning Bio Industries Sdn. Bhd. to host the Sustainable Health Food Awareness Campaign, themed ‘NutriGreen: Healthy Choices, Greener Lives’, at Chong Hwa Independent High School. The campaign aimed to raise awareness among secondary school students about sustainable, healthy food choices, food safety, quality, and nutrition. It also provided a platform for students to develop skills in creating interactive activities to share food science and nutrition knowledge.
The event was attended by around 900 students and 20 teachers from Chong Hwa Independent High School, 60 students from Food Science and Nutrition programmes, 10 academic staff members from the Department of Bioscience, with six interactive stations, including activities such as the Wholegrain Bonanza, Safety Challenge Quest, and Wellness Hub. GoodMorning Bio Industries hosted a station to highlight the benefits of wholegrain beverages in a healthy diet. The event successfully improved participants’ knowledge about healthy and sustainable diets, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

Autodesk Navisworks and ISO 19650 Training for Vocational College Students | 4 Nov - 5 Dec 2024
Organised by the Faculty of Built Environment at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) and sponsored by BSI Services Malaysia, this programme was designed to enhance the digital competencies of vocational students from Kolej Vokasional Setapak. The programme focused on Autodesk Navisworks and ISO 19650, aligning students with industry standards to better prepare them for employment in the construction sector.
Through this initiative, participants have significantly improved their understanding and confidence in using Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools, evidenced by an impressive overall knowledge score increase of 58.74%. The KTP has effectively enhanced students' practical skills and knowledge and positioned them for successful careers in the construction industry.
Exploring Drone Technology for Lake Surface Waste Collection | 18 November 2024
The objective of this project by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FOET) was to explore the use of drone technology to collect floating garbage from the surface of the lake. The aim was to test whether drones could effectively collect waste from hard-to-reach areas, such as the middle of the lake, where manual cleaning efforts are challenging. The project began with a series of training sessions and tests conducted at the TAR UMT campus. The students familiarized themselves with drone controls, testing various collection mechanisms to optimize the drone's ability to pick up debris from the water. The team was then carried out the real-world implementation of the drone-based garbage collection system at a public park lake. After multiple attempts, the drone successfully captured floating waste, which was then manually retrieved from the drone and disposed of in the designated rubbish bin.

Gotong Royong Cegah Denggi Bersasar (HOTSPOT) Taman Bunga Raya 2024 | 19 October 2024
A team of 23 students and 8 staff participated in the "Gotong Royong Cegah Denggi Bersasar (HOTSPOT)" program, launched by the Member of Parliament for Wangsa Maju, Mr Zahir Hassan. The initiative focused on cleaning up the neighborhood to eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds. This collaborative effort with the local community in Tamna Bunga Raya not only addressed the immediate threat of dengue but also emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment for the overall well-being of the community. The program strengthened ties between TAR UMT and the local residents, fostering collaboration and a shared commitment to improving public health.
Taste of Heritage and Charity | 20 September 2024
The Indian Cultural Society hosted the Taste of Heritage event, a celebration aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indian culture and traditions. This engaging initiative introduced students to the cultural and culinary significance of banana leaves in Indian cuisine and rituals, offering a hands-on learning experience that successfully fulfilled its objectives. In addition to promoting cultural awareness, the event had a charitable impact. The profits generated were donated to two local charities: Suria Cahaya Old Folks Home in Titiwangsa and Sweet Care Home in Selayang. These contributions were used to purchase essential provisions for the residents of these homes, providing much-needed support and making a meaningful difference in their lives.

This effort aims to provide essential aid to those struggling to meet their daily needs, helping to alleviate hunger and bring relief to vulnerable members of the community. Central to this initiative was the active involvement of students, who played a pivotal role in assembling food baskets. Each basket was thoughtfully packed with essential items, including instant noodles, biscuits, beverages, and cooking staples, ensuring recipients receive practical support for their daily sustenance.
Mangrovee Tree Replanting and Beach Cleaning | 7 September 2024
The Leo Club of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) partnered with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB) to organize a Mangrove Tree Planting and Beach Cleaning Program at Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park, Selangor. The event attracted over 100 participants, including 35 dedicated students from the TAR UMT Leo Club, who actively contributed to this meaningful environmental initiative. The program focused on restoring the mangrove ecosystem by planting mangrove seeds and cleaning the surrounding beach area, reinforcing the importance of sustainability and conservation.
August Blood Donation Campaign | 26-30 August 2024
The First Aid Unit, in collaboration with the National Blood Center, organized the August Blood Donation Campaign from August 26 to 30, 2024, at Bangunan Tun Tan Siew Sin, attracting an impressive 734 donors. This life-saving initiative has the potential to impact over 2,000 lives, highlighting the importance of regular blood donation in supporting healthcare systems.
VitaHealth Offline 16 Event | 17 August 2024
The Faculty of Applied Sciences partnered with VitaHealth for their VitaHealth Offline 16 Event, which aimed to encourage a 16-hour digital detox to reduce stress and rejuvenate the mind. Thirty-seven students and one staff member assisted with four fitness test stations, including the sit and reach test, Omron fat analyser test, handgrip strength test, and lower back strength test. The event gathered approximately 200 participants from across Malaysia and offered a range of activities like Zumba, stand-up comedy, motivational talks, live music, and wellness activities such as sound bath yoga. The event’s objectives were to promote disconnecting from the digital world to reduce stress, encourage meaningful face-to-face interactions, and raise awareness about mental wellness.

Empowerment Through English Language Classes | July 2024
The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities’ Department of English Studies (DENS) carried out a knowledge transfer programme for Somali Refugees in Semester 202405 (July 2024). Ten sessions were conducted for two groups of Somali women who completed a beginner’s level of English classes. DENS lecturers and students conducted free English language classes for the Somali Refugee Community in Medan Idaman Gombak, Kuala Lumpur.
BWF CSR Project - Shuttle Time Teacher Course | 29 Jun 2024
The Faculty of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the BWF, held a coaching clinic at TARUMT Basketball Court 1 to celebrate World Badminton Day. The event provided 30 children from two local homes (Praise Emmanuel and Shelter Children Home) the opportunity to experience badminton. Led by certified Shuttle Time Teachers and supported by 19 volunteer coaches, the clinic featured four activity stations aimed at promoting physical activity and inspiring the children. The clinic aligned with BWF’s goal of giving every child a chance to play for life.
The clinic's objectives were to ensure project sustainability through local workforce collaboration, build relationships with local organizations, and prepare participants for future coaching clinics. The project also supported the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDGs 3, 4, and 5, by promoting healthy living, providing quality coaching, and ensuring equal participation for children of all genders and backgrounds in sports.

A dedicated team of 6 staff members and 35 students, embarked on an inspiring mangrove planting mission at Tanjung Burung, Pantai Remis. Supported by the Perak Forestry Department, this initiative aimed to contribute to the ambitious national goal of planting 100 million trees by 2050. Together, the team successfully planted 500 mangrove seedlings, playing a crucial role in bolstering the vital mangrove ecosystem

The First Aid Unit, in collaboration with the National Blood Center, hosted the April Blood Donation Campaign from April 1 to April 5, 2024, at the Foyer of Tun Tan Siew Sin Building. This meaningful initiative aims to raise awareness about the vital role of blood donation and offers an opportunity for students, staff, and the public to contribute to saving lives. The campaign plays a crucial role in supporting the National Blood Center by replenishing blood reserves to ensure a stable supply for medical emergencies, surgeries, and patients with chronic conditions requiring transfusions. Additionally, it seeks to educate participants on the numerous health benefits of regular blood donation, including promoting overall well-being and potentially reducing the risk of certain health conditions. By joining this effort, the blood donors (about 1000) not only save lives but also become a part of a larger movement towards fostering a healthier and more compassionate society.

A group of 19 students, accompanied by one advisor, visited Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Triniti Selangor as part of their programme Orphanage Visit: Rays of Hope. The visit successfully achieved its objectives by providing an opportunity for meaningful interaction with the children. Through these engagements, the students gained a deeper understanding of the children’s struggles, raising their awareness of current social issues and the importance of empathy. The program included a variety of interactive activities, such as educational mini-games, which not only entertained the children but also created a positive and engaging environment. This hands-on approach enabled participants to connect with the children on a personal level while fostering a spirit of compassion and social responsibility among the students.

The clinic included five activity stations designed to engage and inspire the children. The clinic aimed to promote physical activity among children, supporting the BWF’s objective to give every child a chance to play for life. Its objectives were to ensure sustainability by collaborating with the local workforce, build relationships with local organizations, and prepare participants for future coaching clinics within the CSR project.

This is a course co-organized by the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The course aimed to ensure sustainability by working with the local workforce, build relationships between local organizations and institutions, and prepare participants for coaching clinics tied to a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project. Participants, including local teachers, caregivers, coaches, and TARUMT students, learned about the Shuttle Time programme, badminton techniques, and coaching methods through both theoretical and practical sessions.
TzuChi x Green Society Recycling Program | 21 Feb & 20 Mar 2024
The Green Society organized recyclable material collection points at TARUMT's main gate on February 21st and at RedBricks on March 20th to promote the 5R concept and raise waste pollution awareness. Students and staff contributed recyclable materials and were rewarded with classic childhood snacks. The collected materials were then transported by NGO Tzu Chi (慈济) to their recycling center for further processing and arrangement.
